FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How do we get started?
I offer a 30-minute complimentary Zoom consultation to discuss what you need, answer any questions you might have, and help you get a feel for whether we are a good fit. Please email me to set up this initial conversation.
  • Can we meet in-person? Via Zoom?
I work via Zoom and phone with Californians, New Yorkers, and digital nomads. For anyone in the Bay Area who would like to see me in person I have an office in the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco.
  • What are your Covid protocols for in-person sessions?
I work with large windows open and two HEPA air purifiers running. I will mask and ventilate and purify the air well before you arrive. I also have an outdoor space where we can meet if you prefer to do that. I am more than happy to work masked. If you have a strong preference to meet without masks, let me know. We can consider doing so if both of us are symptom-free and we have each tested immediately prior to the session. Please do not come in if you have any Covid symptoms or feel ill in any way. We can easily switch to Zoom as the need arrises.
  • How long is each session?  How frequently will we meet?
I offer a 30-minute introductory consultation. Subsequent individual psychotherapy sessions are 45 minutes. Sessions for couples are 60 minutes. Session frequency is variable. I meet with people a minimum of a once a week. Should time, energy, and financial constraints allow, we may decide to meet more often as there is considerable evidence to suggest that higher frequency treatment leads to the most sustainable long-term change.
  • What are your fees?
The fee for once a week therapy is $250 for individuals and $300 for couples. More intensive work (2-5 sessions per week) may be discounted based on financial need and agreed upon session frequency. Additionally, I reserve a number of hours in my schedule each week for those in need of a significantly reduced fee. Please don’t hesitate to ask me about that availability. If I am not able to accommodate you, I will be more than happy to provide a referral to an appropriate colleague or clinic.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Though I am not in-network with any insurance company, I can provide you each month with an invoice to submit to your insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement if such coverage is available to you. Payment will be expected directly from you on a monthly basis, by electronic transfer.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Psychotherapy works best with regular sessions so I request that you do your best to honor your scheduled appointments. • If you know you will need to cancel (rather than reschedule) a session, please let me know at least a week in advance. With less notice than that, I will need to charge for the missed session. • I understand that conflicts and illness can arise with little notice and I am always happy to try to reschedule under such circumstances. If we are not able to find a mutually agreeable alternative time within two weeks of the scheduled appointment, I will need to charge for the missed session.
  • How should I reach you?
Please feel free to contact me by phone (212.479.0800) or email (tessa.d.addison@gmail.com) at any hour. In either case, I will get back to you as soon as I am able, usually the day of contact or the next day.
